I had several stitches put in on my right calf today, the wound was oval shaped and hard to close, the hospital really did not do a great job covering it with bandages, they came off almost immediately. I have to walk around and i have to do some things, i am just scared the stitches will pop, or break open, is there a big chance of that?

Chances of the stitches popping isn't very likely. They probably bandaged it to keep the dirt out. If you have some bandage to cover it with then just redo it. Or maybe a piece of white cloth you can tape over it. If it is small enough you can buy those really big bandaids and use one of them. I really wouldn't worry about them popping though. You should worry more about keeping the dirt out of the wound. Maybe you could wrap an ace bandage around it for a day. Or cut the top off of a white sock and put that around it for a day. If they didn't instruct you to change the bandages or when to take them off then try to keep it losely covered for a day or so so that the healing can start. If you are still not sure then call the hospital and ask to speak to a nurse and they will instruct you as to what to do for it. They can even look up your chart. That would probably be your best bet. Good luck.
