A gift card is always welcome. Since this is a coworker, I would go with something a little less personal. Also, another idea is to call some of the other people where he works and ask what his interests are. That would put you on the right track as to where a gift card would best be bought!

It would help to know what the guy likes and also how much you are planning to spend. I think a gift card is always nice and I'm sure he can use it in a big dept store or maybe one from Starbucks if he's a coffee person.

If he has a car he probably like a gift certificate for a car wash, Most guys like there car detailed. And or a gift certificate to a restaurant or store.

Unless you know his interests, I'd go with a giftcard of some kind to a place like best buy or circuit city. Can't go wrong with electronics as far I'm concerned. :)
