I just transfered to another college and I don't really know anyone. I'm really bored. So my solution is to drink some(a lot) beer. A friend and I are thinking about playing a drinking game over the net. Am I an alcoholic?

Also, if drinking alone is bad, how can I meet new people? Thanks..

Its fine to drink by yourself. Its only a problem if you got invited to go out and drink, but declined so you could drink by yourself. otherwise, have fun!

Drinking alone does not, by itself, mean that you are an alcoholic.

However, it does signal that you are drinking to fill a hole in your life, like loneliness. It also sounds like you are trying to find a way to minimize your concern about this aspect of your life by trying to find an "online drinking buddy." Drinking with someone else online does not mean you are no longer drinking alone, it means that you have found someone else that drinks alone.

I strongly suggest that you find a club or group on campus to join. There are many kinds of organizations that contain lots of people looking for friends, just like yourself. Finding excuses to remain alone is preventing you from socializing in healthy ways. If your school does not have any clubs in which you are interested (which would be unusual), talk to the student government association about starting a club that deals with one of your major interests. You could be the president!

The link below has very good information about college students and alcohol abuse. Take a look. You'll be glad you did.

Best wishes to you, and get off the internet and go meet some people!

Go to a frat party or a bar. But seriously don't drink too much. If you are in college you have a good future ahead of you.

its not hard to meet people at college. Neighbors, kids in classes or whatever are always looking to party. Just talk to people and things will happen.
