I think it actually stems from way back in the ancient Greek times. Hell, women weren't even allowed to go to them to watch the men compete, as they were naked.
It's almost as if it's genetic. Sports tend to be competitive. Let's face it. Most sports are for men, and are filled with testosterone. Women aren't that competitive, and the entire game is designed by the men for the men. Much like pornography.

Oh, c'mon- that's an easy one! Sports are a past time, a hobby, even a career; but women- or men, as the case may be- are an addiction!
Or did you mean: Why do men like sports more than women do?
(Either way, if you don't phrase it nicely you may be sleeping on the couch tonight..) ;-)

It's probably because men play most of the sports being watched. I mean, the AAGPBL died out because men were watching other men play baseball. Women were at home doing housewife stuff. If more women played sports, chances are women would watch them just because other women were doing it and it's good to cheer someone of your own gender on.

Some women do like sports, but the percentage of men liking sports is higher than that of women. I think it goes back to the competitive instinct man has had for millenia. Sports are an outlet to vent competition.

Sports are a universal language for men. It's a way for men to communicate and to maintain glimpses of their 'warrior' selves. I say this, of course, as a man.
When I was younger, watching sports was a way to pick up skills and participate socially. Now, it just reminds me of what I can no longer do as well as I used to. Soon I'll have to either stop watching altogether or invest my time solely in golf viewing.

I don't know what you mean, cause I sure as hell love sports. I play 6 of them, and I love to watch a lot more than that. I play hockey soccer, lacross, baseball, football, and softball. I watch Gopher Men's hockey with a passion, never missing games, and I watch NASCAR almost as heavy as I watch hockey.
