Many teenagers get depressed, many don't know why - you are not alone. Being a teen is not always easy.

Adolescence is a time of physical, emotional, intellectual and social changes that build the bridge between childhood and adulthood. With change comes stress and anxiety. Therefore, teens may have mood swings daily --one day they are up and the next day they are down.

However, when you feel down for more than two weeks, it may be a sign of a more serious problem. It can be hard to tell the difference between normal mood swings and clinical depression. The following information may alert you to the signs of teenage depression.

Quick Facts:
Teenage girls are twice as likely as boys to suffer from depression.

Serious depression is not something that a person can just "snap out of."

Use of alcohol or other drugs only makes depression worse.

For youth who are questioning their sexual identity (homosexuality, bisexuality), feelings of loneliness and rejection lead to a greater risk of depression and suicide.

Untreated depression can lead to suicide.

You may be scared to talk to your parents about this, but serious things like this are importaint and it's thier job to help you. Parents care about you deeply no matter what, and will want to help you the best they can.

Make an appointment with your middle school counselor/therapist if you can, to have them help you sort through what you are going thru.

You may be suffering from depression. If you have insurance, you may have direct access to a psychiatrist or therapist. Or, in some plans you may need to have a referral from your primary care physician. If you have a job with a large corporation, you may have access to an employee help line that can help you. Look in the phone book and call mental health agencies. If you do not know of any, call the psychiatric ward of a hospital and ask them to tell you of some places you can go. But get some help, if it's been more than a couple of weeks, the depression may not go away by itself.

If you're a student, go to your guidance counselor in high school or your student health services center if you are in college.

Depression may be one of the reasons and also this time of the year many people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. Try getting active going for some regular exercises get some vitamins and also see a Doctor to properly diagnose what may be causing this problem. It may simply be that you need some iron in your diet but you could also have a problem with your thyroid or even have mononucleosis.

No it is not a stupid question. your feelings are never stupid. you might feel this way because you are depressed. I'm not diagnosing you I just think you should tell your parents and have them take you to a doctor. Middle school is hard sometimes, just talk to your parents or a counselor they should be able to help you.

You are suffering with depression. I was like that for several months. I would just cry, for no apparent reason, just seemed sad. I didn't feel depressed. I didn't seem to have anything bothering me or worrying me, I just cried.
I talked to my doctor and he put me on 10mg of Lexapro.
I feel much better. I don't go to counseling, however, I do pray and study the Bible.
I am not saying that I wouldn't seek counseling if I thought that I needed to be counseled.

See your doctor about this...recently I went thru this; sad, no energy..I would cry at the drop of a hat. I thought I was clinically depressed but I found out that I had hypothyroidism, which has the same symptoms. Have your doctor properly diagnose you..good news is that no matter what it is, it can be fixed. Good luck.

I think it's depression. What you should do is tell your parents because it's the best thing for you to do and your parents are there to help you with anything. My parents are always there for me and they never made me feel like I was unworthy to talk to them. I'm sure that your parents will help you. A parents love for their child is strong and they want you to be happy. If they can't help you themselves then they will get you the help that you need.

It happens sometimes, especially to teens, hormones and all that. When I feel that way I try to look for ways that I can help make life better for others and just have positive effects on the people and the world around me. I do my best to help people as long as it ain't hurting nobody, and I always feel better and I want to do more. Remember that there are those who care about you even if you don't always see them.

It does sound like depression. What I would do is first go back to God. Get around some Christian friends and look to God to take away your sadness. It could also be that your caught up in sin. I remember when I useds to feel that way and I didn't tell nobody. But, when I recieved Christ into my heart, that's when things started changing.

it's not a stupid question, you might be suffering from clinical depression. it doesn't mean you are mental or anything you just might have an extremely low seratonin level. talk to your school counselor or call your doctor. if you feel weird talking to your parents talk to another trusted adult. hang in there. i've been thru it too. meds help, and talking about it helps.
