the best time to quit now, however, quitting at any time is great too! I was 3 months pregnant when I quit. I bought these cigarettes called "Quest" and I had NO problem quitting. Just think of it has helping your child...and it makes things alot easier to quit

The bad stuff from smoking will not pass to the baby in your pregnancy until a little ways in (not exactly how many weeks)... You should stop smoking and stop drinking once you find out you are pregnant, but you should not be concerned about smokes or alcohol that you had between the conception and the time you found out you were pregnant...
But, hey, you should quit anyways. The last think you want is a newborn with black lungs from breathing nasty smoke. At least you are one of the responsible ones for wanting to quit before forcing the nasty habit on an innocent infant.
GOOD LUCK - and if nothing else, do it for your kids....

No in your case that is not true. You are not preg. yet and even if you were the baby has not been exposed long enough to be addicted. You can quit and the sooner the better, for both of you. My cousin was told about the stress on the baby, but she was 6 mos and was smoking about 1 1/2 packs a day. However the risks of smoking far outweigh the risks of quiting (if there are any).

It's never too late to quit smoking. any day you don't smoke is of benifit to your health. I'm not sure to what extent smoking before you got pregnant would affect the pregnancy if at all. Certainly smoking during a pregnancy is very harmful, or even being around 2nd hand smoke because the oxygen your intaking is being circulated to the baby as well.
Don't feel descouraged because you used to smoke, just feel good about every day you don't smoke.
Good luck with getting pregnant and quitting smoking :D

I have never heard that quitting while pregnant stresses the baby. Even if it does, it is MUCH safer for the baby to not smoke.
Quit as soon as possible, preferably before you get pregnant. I had a neighbor who smoked through all 3 of her pregnancies - her kids were all small for their age, they were all born early, the middle one didn't say a word even at almost 18 months and had seizures at 4-5 months, and the youngest was almost born at 24 weeks or so. She struggled with pre-term labor most of that pregnancy.
Talk to your doctor about ways to help you quit. It's a great thing to do both for yourself and your baby. Good luck!

I became pregnant as a smoker, and it is very hard to quit, even though you now you should. However, smoking greatly increases your chances of having a miscarriage, so I would try to begin cutting down on the number of cigarettes you smoke in a day. As long as you do quit, you will be helping your baby, no matter how long it takes you. Every cigarette you don't smoke helps.

Before I became pregnant I smoked maybe 2 cigarettes a day so not much but they day I found out I was pregnant i stopped and have not smoked since. I have had a healthy great pregnancy thus far. If you are trying to conceive then it would probably be best to try and quit now if it is hard for you.

I stated smoking at age 15, then quit. At 17 I started again and swore that I would quit when I got pregnant. At 19, I got pregnant and for 9 months I TRIED to quit, but even when the smoke made me sick, I HAD to have my cigs; I switched to lights. I am now almost 30, and have smoked through 3 pregnancies. I wish I had never started. I never believed that it could be this hard to quit!

you should just quit now...here's why...many women don't realize they are pregnant till 1-2 months into it, if at all. those first weeks are the most important of the entire gestation period, so you wouldn't want to smoke and harm your child (at all) but especially then. that is when the vital organs and such are being made therefore when the birth defects of the smoking (drugs or alcohol) would have the most adverse affect. it is also a good idea to start taking a pre-natal vitamin daily while you're trying, that way if you do concieve, the baby is getting those important vitamins immediatly to help in those vital early weeks.

it's never too late to quit smoking. It won't put stress on the baby if you quit while you're pregnant, it will only help. I smoked until i was 6 weeks (light) then once everything started making me queasy i COULDNT smoke anymore. Especially it will help with lung and other organ development. Quit now and don't chance hurting your baby.
