hamster or rat?

Hi there. Personally, I have had both. Rats tend to be smarter and cleaner and trainable. I found that hamsters were dirtier, could not be trained, but were interesting to watch. I found that giving my rats gerbil and or hamster food would make them thrive and rat/mouse food was deficient. Since rats are also omnivorous like us, you can give them a good balanced diet from people food until you have a chance to go to the pet store. Have a great year.

I like hamsters. I've actually had a couple. Never had a rat, but domesticated ones are actually cute. Not sure if they're taken care of the same way. I quess I would have to say I like the hamster better, but beings that I never had a rat I don't want to be partial to one or the other.

Rats, I think they have more personality and dont seem to always be trying to get away like hamsters do. I have had both, and rats are more friendly.

Rats.. Hamsters bite awful. Rats have such sad lives. I would prefer a rat to a hamster anyday.

i know rats can have great personalities and are very intelligent and i have known many biting hamsters, but just out of the look of cuddliness i'm going to have to go with hamster.

I have had both. Didn't like the hamster, it was mean. I love rats. They are clean and intelligent. They are given a bad rap like pitbulls.

well since i really don't like hamsters, i'd say a rat. hamsters, although are cute, stink, bite, cannibalize young, and are nocturnal. i've never had a rat before, but i hear they're intelligent and cuddly.
(btw my all time rodent favorite is gerbils!!)
