I believe that true happiness is not found with reaching the goal of greed. I believe that you cannot even reach a a plce to void out greed and fill it with happiness. That is, what you are greedy for, will not stop the greed by reaching a set goal. You may want, wish, hope, desire, even lust after something, never get it and still be happy in other ways. Greed, however, will control you. If you have greed for a certain car, and you get it, your greed will then become a stereo system for it; Then more expensive rims; Neon lights, etc. Your greed will subside even if you pimp out that car to the max. It will merely transfer to another car and start all over. You are not pursuing happiness, you are feeding an addiction, which is basically what greed is.

The way in which you stated your question is the key. "Is the PURSUIT of happiness a worthy goal? Yes. Definitely! It's a very enjoyable experience. If gives you hope. It gives you something to look forward to. If you are pursuing the happiness of being moderately financialy stable, you can be happy because yoy get just enough to enjoy it You can spend it on necessities, and spend it a little foolishly at times too. But with greed you spend it more to impress others, or maybe not at all. Or, if you do fool some away, in the end you will nag yourself into a nervous breakdown for wasting it.

Pursue happiness, and be happy because of it.

The idea of pursuit of happiness in the Declaration of Independence has many implications. One is that our new nation was formed so that the tyranny it had over it by foreign nations was no longer acceptible. It follows that without tyranny, the people of this nation would have free will to make their own decisions and not have to be constantly indebted to taskmasters. Thus the pursuit is not simply a goal, but a freedom to decide for oneself. Many people find such freedom daunting and need to be told what to do. The pursuit could be used for greed or generosity. I have referenced an essay by Andrew Sullivan as one example of a higher value for the pursuit. I'm sure you can find many views since that is the reason we have this ideal.

Happiness is always a worthy goal. Though, I don't think you can pursue it for yourself. You can however pusue it for someone else and they give it back to you. Ever hear that story about one definition of hell and one of heaven? People sit around a table of soup with very long spoons and cannot feed themselves. They can only feed the person(s) across the table from them. Well, happiness is like this. Get involved in projects and things that make other people happy. Do something to help someone else on a daily basis some small kindness. In pursuing happiness for others you wake up and find you too have aquired happiness. Find your humanity. Find happiness.

It's more worthy a goal than the pursuit of unhappiness - of which greed is an element.

the pursuit of happiness is certainly a worthy goal.the question is what do we mean by happiness in our lives.som people believe buying things, eating new stuff, going places.this is all hedonistic pleasure.for some of the human beings happiness means helping others in distress and making the best of it.this is real pleasure and meaningful.getting intermingled with nature and its species as animals, birds is the most satisfying exprience on this earth.if we ever help any animal or bird who needs us,that wd give us immense happiness.and sex is also a part of happiness if practised respectfully considering it auspisicous n worshipping it from the depth of soul.

Nah. I think happiness is more a by-product of a life well lived. I think that would mean focusing more on others than yourself. I think people like Mother Theresa have a higher level of happiness in this world (in addition to being more touched with the sadness that is in this world) than those who are in it for themselves.
I think the more we grasp to find out why God has us here and what we can do with the life we have- then we will be more content and fulfilled.

Certainly, it is the primary goal of our existence. But to understand what is happiness and what is not is difficult. Most of use in the name of happiness pursue pleasure. Happiness is the final state of Mind. Pleasure is the outcome of wealth which changes. Happiness is permanent, which does not depend on the conditions in which we live. You can forsake every thing in life and be happy with inner peace. Good question.

We’re purely right here for a cuppa coffee… heavily. once you die, you be ineffective. You quit to exist in-on any length. genuinely we've not greater importance interior the scheme of issues than virus, cat, elephant or computer virus - we exist purely via fact situations enable us to exist... I certainly have figured it out... for me... we exist for the common reason that we exist. there is no purpose; there is no ‘Grand Plan” or 'meaning' to our existence; there is no invisible area chappie; we are purely a fairly common twist of destiny in Time and area. we are, at maximum suitable, an unintentional number of loosely mixed waves and debris responding to our atmosphere ... no count how state-of-the-paintings that atmosphere could be or we expect of it to be. on the top of 'existence' we 'disperse'; we burn up into the waves and debris of stardust. We would to boot have some relaxing mutually as we are right here without all that paranoia stuff - thinking there are invisible sky chappies staring at and arranged for us to make a screw up. we are ALL, continually reacting to the situation-atmosphere wherein we detect ourselves and each little thing we EVER do is so as that we are able to take excitement in some 'happy' as a consequence. existence is basically one long assorted decision try … ~

With happiness comes all other things that are good in life.

Pursuing it has never been a way I looked at it... You either are or you aren't. Only YOU can choosse to be happy and how YOU handle every day life will reflect that. If you feel you must pursue it then look no further than your mirror.... there lies your problems and your solution.

Not really...

Greed isin't any more satisfying than happiness is... When you get an abundance of either... It just never seems to be enough and the let downs are horrible.

Go for contentment and enlightenment. Trust me!
