and then turn right around and complain about America "sticking its nose into the business of others"? Why is America always the country appealed to for help, but then is the butt of all the jokes, the centerfold of slander, and the scapegoat for whats wrong with the world? America can't win. Other countries feel as if it is America's duty to assist other nations when times are rough, and to take a stand, as the leading world power, on different issues which have nothing to do with us (i.e. Israel/Palestine, Northern Ireland, Kosovo, etc). But once America forms its opinion for one way or another, somebody always hates us. We can never win. And then we get lambasted for "butting in" to issues that are not our business. Why? Why can't we just be left alone, or why can't the international community stop bitching, or why can't the international community stop asking us for our opinion?

I know that America is a rich and powerful nation with a lot of assets, which is why the nations of the world appeal to us. But then they turn right around, and the anger and hatred which they espouse for America is seething and hostile. I'm sick of it.

Firstly, I'm not anti-American, there is so much of American culture that I like and admire. The only thing I have ever had a problem with is the politics of Bush and living in a democracy you should prepare to have politics debated.
The UK has gone into Afghanistan and Iraq alongside the US despite the wishes of the majority of this country. They've sacrificed British lives for this war to keep on the USAs good side among other things. Just because people are angry with this politics doesnt mean they hate an entire country. Tony Blair and his government have been criticised greatly over the last 5 years as well and he's British. We've given enormous sacrifices for your country and we're not indebted to you. This is the same for so many countries accross Europe eg Spain etc that supported the US in the war.
Its a widely held consensus that there are no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq; thats annoying. Bush (and Blair) prided themselves on democracy but went against the entire United Nations wishes. You can't blame other countries for feeling antagonised, patronised and pushed around from the position they stand in even if the US (and Britain) meant well with their actions.
Its natural that people will ask for the US's opinion and assistance on things as they are a super power, but this is also true of Russia, China and some countries in Europe and have hardly been singled out.

Because these people are hypocritical. All this complaining from people in other countries stems from jealousy. America is the greatest nation on earth and has the power to do anything it wants and everyone knows it. That alone is enough to make people feel inadequate, when comparing themselves to Americans and America. They have an inferiority complex that has recently morphed into extreme anti-Americanism. Plus, much of the world is uneducated - in comparison to Americans - and are easily led to believe the lies spouted by their "intellectual" elite. Its a sad state of affairs over there.

Americans are the salt of the earth and the backbone of the world.

look up the word impose in the dictionary, all countries are like each other, they want to be wealthy and power-full. But because America consumes so much yet produces so little they like to keep control over global trade, they certainly have buying power over the global community. To do this they IMPOSE themselves in the name of coming to the aid of others. The truth is that if your country has a valuable resource and your government is or can be destabilised then America see's that as opportunity. There will be no democracy in Iraq or any other country where America has come to the aid, to be in fact America financially contributed to destabilising Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam and Korea, to name just a few, because it was in the best interest of America and its global trade policy. Believe it or not but most people in Iraq were better off with Saddam than with the occupation, but we are all powerless to stop America, the best thing we can do is support our own governmental process and not give America the chance to come to our aid. If you believe in peace then you don't drop bombs on innocent people, try listening to voices of the people and not the news readers and you will find that neither Afghanistan nor Iraq or even the people of Iran didn't ask for the kind of help that the U.S. is imposing on them. And before you go all 9/11 about the whole terrorism bit, none of these countries, at the time of 9/11, supported fundamentalism. To be in fact Saddam had stamped it out to keep control of all the factions and unify his country. So beleive it or not ( and i think the latter for you) most people dont want America's opinion, or their military support they just want free trade, and to be wealthy enough from the deal to feed themselves, the rest is all pollitics.

As far as I'm aware, the last time we called upon the Americans for help was the Second World War, and since then, you've called on us for help in places like Korea, Vietnam, (although our Prime Minister refused to send troops) Kosovo (under U.N rulings) Afghanistan and Iraq. I think it's just a a case of "We helped you, now help us!" I think, however, it is unfair for the world to continue to bait America, it has a lot of power and could and should exercise that power, but every nation baits each other! that's just the way of the world!

America tried to keep itself to itself prior to joining WW2. It was quite happy to carry on with it's lease/lend policy for supplying arms to the allies of the time, i.e. England, france etc. But then all of a sudden it found to its cost that isolationism was not really an option, For even though locked away in the vaults of the white house was a pre-prepared treaty waiting to be signed by hitler and the then president of the USA, They realised with germany attempting to invade England who were the last defence before the Atlantic, that there was nothing to stop Hitler and his allies (Japan,Italy) from invading the USA in a bi-coastal attack, of which Pearl Harbour was the pre-runner in an attempt to destroy the pacific fleet, thus enabling a sea-borne invasion on that coast, and don't be fooled by Japans size and population into thinking they couldn't do it, remember they once invaded and occupied most of china and even parts of russia. So to end the lecture and answer your question, there is a quote, "No man is an island" well no nation is an island in the sense that world strife does not concern it, war and peace dominate all our lives and to not be a part of the peacemaking team would be a great mistake, even if you are lambasted for your attempts to do so. As for northern Ireland i dont remember any American forces going there to quell the troubles, in fact you will find precisely the opposite, many very influential American people subscribed to an organisation know as Nor-Aid, which openly collected money for the supply of weapons to the IRA which were then used to kill many innocent people over a 30 year period, e.g. The Omagh bombing where 1000 people were killed or injured, so you have to realise that not everybody will be pleased with your governments decisions, what was it that was said? oh yes, "You can please all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cant please all the people all the time."

I think that's a really broad generalization and perspective of the world. Yes, we're not popular the way we used to be but that's mainly because our government does unpopular things, particularly now. We love to brag about how powerful and rich and advanced we are but imagine how that attitude plays out in the rest of the world. Is it no surprise we may be seen as a threat? Hell between the world wars the British government was secretly preparing for the war with the US, not Germany, America. Why? Because WWI demonstrated our capacity to rapidly deply massive amounts of war making capacity in such a short period of time. Just because we have lived up to our reputation for fighting against tyranny and oppression does nto mean that one day we ourselves could not becoem the very thing we purport to stand against.

I hate to burst your bubble, but America is not the richest country in the world, anymore. Those days are gone. We are the nation with the largest National debt in the world!
We are still the strongest nation but China is catching up, fast! So that title may not be lasting either!
I don't know, we seem to have a penchant for wanting to help the world, uninvited. We see something wrong & seem to need to try & fix it! Other nations see us as throwing our weight around & perhaps we do, a bit. The rest of the world knows that if it asks our opinion, we just gotta do more than that, we think we have to help & they know it! Thats why they ask our opinion! They want our help but don't want to ask for it. Again, we have butted in to their business.

The piece rambles and is with out concentration. Grammatical blunders are rampant, and there are some misspellings. you prefer a composition fact to look someplace interior the start of the article. The reader would desire to have some concept what you're approximately to deal with in the previous you get into the beef of the piece. as quickly as you have made illustrated your factor, you may desire to succinctly restate it and close the piece. i'd advise having a young person whom you believe yet possibly you have some political disagreements (perhaps a youthful republican with a penchant for journalism?) seem over the article. then you've gotten somebody who can examine the article heavily and supply you suggestions with out bias, yet who would understand what you attempt to declare related to the adolescents vote. as quickly as you are attempting this, have a valuable grownup, perhaps a journalism instructor, edit the piece. in spite of everything this and a the subsequent rewrites, you in basic terms would desire to have some thing. additionally: The ultimate line is killer. attempt to maintain it. stable success!

I would absolutely love to see what would happen if FOR ONE WHOLE YEAR the United States cut off ALL foreign aid to ALL countries, shut down all foreign military bases, and let the world fend for itself.

A tsunami devistated your country? Call the UN.

An earthquake ravaged your country? Call the UN.

A volcanoe errupted? Call the UN.

A military general took control of your country? Call the UN.

A flood? Call the UN.

A meteorite? Call the UN.

An AIDS epidemic? Call the UN.

Your country was just invaded by another country? Call the UN.

Your country was hit by a famine? Call the UN.

For anything and everything from now on...CALL THE UN!

If the world is going to shyt all over the United States no matter what we do, then maybe the only country we should worry about is our own! As a tax paying American sick of seeing BILLIONS given a way for free every year to countries who vote against us in the UN over 75% of the time, I would LOVE to cut everybody off for a year. See what happens!

America, by history's standards, has always been one of the "strongest" nations in the world. Between the intelligence of science, the strength of the military, and the "stability" of the economy, America has become the "go to" nation. Especially due to the large number and strength of America's military force, it is no wonder other countries seek our advice and assistance, especially with America's spotlight at the UN and other international forums.
