This message is believe to be very defamatory in nature and contains one or more illegally taken photographs, perhaps via cellphone and has traveled throughout the city. People are reluctant to speak on it or give a copy in order to protect the source.

GPS = Global Positioning System

Yes, some cameras equipped with GPS can record the location, date and time the photo was taken. (technically also possible with some of today's camera-phones too i suppose)

But i don't see how any of that will help you resolve a defamation. Have you considered asking the source to remove the damaging information?

You need to contact your service provider. They should be able to trace the source of the text message.
