I have a small block chevy 350 with a turbo 400 transmission sitting in the garage next to an old Hyundai Elantra. Then this idea hit me...bam....what if i put the V8 engine in the Hyundai? Would it fit? Would the local Chevy Motorheads beat me up for abusing one of their engines?

That is an awesome idea. Is the 400 a rwd tranny? Because I think that will actually work better for this project. If you know how to weld, then do a live axle set up in the rear, weld the brackets for the links to the frame. It will be a lot of work but it will also be totally freakin' awesome. I doubt that the motorheads would fail to appreciate how cool that is.

Incidentally, a 350 chevy engine will fit into a Chevy Vega too!!! But, of course, it ain't easy either....

I put a 430 Lincoln in a 55 chevy too, but like ALL mismatched engine swaps, there's a whole lot of cutting, welding, fabrication and heartache that goes into it...fender wells, floor pan, firewall, those are only the start. Don't forget the rear end...

And, ohhh yes...wiring on these new computerized cars...gotta work on that!!!

How "old" is that Elantra btw???

Hey why not. If you have the time the money and the skill to build everything to do it right. I keep joking with my friend who has a little Tercel that we should put a tube chassis under. Drop a small block in it . Mini tub the rear with of course a narrowed rear and go chase ricer cars down with it.

Your mixing apples & oranges... The hyundai is front wheel drive , the engine / trans are for a rwd ... You might be able to squeeze it in there w/ a torch & a LOT of effort , but you'd have to get different front suspension / as well as a drive axle for the rear .. Its probably much more trouble than its actually worth . Not to mention creating a stronger sub-frame to hold all of it together ..

i own a repair shop, and this can be done, its not impossible,i have a Mazda 262 with a 350 in it,and it gets some weird looks when i drive it,there is some cutting and welding to do,but in the end its just a fun car to drive,if your good with a torch, and a welder, and have good mechanical abilities you can do this, its kind of tricky getting a radiator in it to handle the cooling, but you can slant it like that corvettes are,but it will fit,we live in a time when nothing is impossible to do,with enough money and resources it can be done, you also need a lot of patience with this also, because its going to look impossible at times, but it will work,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

Your main problem would be finding a hood to fit the car.
You would need several modifications as the tranny, differential etc would not handle the power.
Looking at the weight and size of the engine you would have to strap it to the roof of the car

With enough time, money, and a well equipped shop, anything is possible. But why stop there? Trade in your 350 for a 502, and drop it in.
