It depends on the age of the person wearing it, and the occasion. If it's a casual thing go with the ordinary that all the other people use. If it's something formal or if the person you're going to give it to is a grownup, then there's a lot more options. Also, depends on the season. Winter usually requires a heavier scent and summer a lighter one. Look up some of the perfume sites on the internet for more information.
My favorite are the lines from Jivago (if you can find them)

Unforgivable by Sean John is the best smelling one out right now. Kenneth Cole and Ralph Lauren cologne's usually smell good too. I think department store cologne's like Abercrombie and American Eagle smell great as well because everytime i ask a guy what he's wearing he says AE or A&F, but Sean John is the best right now.

I have a few favs because I wear tons of perfume. Because people's chemistry differ, the same cologne on 1 man will smell different on another. But here are a few of my fav picks!
CK One is my all time fav because it's unisex! But it always smells better on guys!!!

Ladies have more perfumes than guys do colognes, of course. And scents tend to come in a few base types--spicy, vanilla, woodsy, fresh, weak, thick and thin-but-sort-of-blue.
I like Polo a bit better than Aramis, along with Timberline deodorant.
I'm still a nuisance when I arrive a a party wearing these scents; but at least no one run's away when I arrive... Good question, thanks.

Fierce by Abercrombie. It's the best I have four boys and that's all they wear. All ages of men wear it I think you'll love it and so will all the ladies.
