Generally speaking, I think generalizing that parents love their pets more than children is a bit outlandish. I'm sure some do, but that percentage is pretty small.
You take the total number of pets in "day care" and the total number of children in day care, and you'll have to agree that those sending their pets are definitely a small minority.....no matter how authoritatively 60 Minutes presented it's case. Additionally, day care centers for children are licensed and supposed to be watched over. Also, children can be quizzed about what's happening in day care, animals can't.
So all of this should be in some sort of perspective, don't you think?

I personally think that the relationship that some people have with their pets - is based on selfish desires. To some, a pet is a living and breathing "possession". Some people go to extraordinary lengths to make sure that their possessions are well cared for (whether it is a pet, a house or a car). Think of it this way - most pets love unconditionally and "worship" their owners (whether their owner is a decent person or not). So I think that this insane value that some people put on pets/animals is an outward show of selfishness.
I personally love animals and think that they deserve to be loved and cared for. However, they are by no means more important than our children. Children are unfortunately viewed as liabilities to some (and not the incredible blessings that they truly are). We owe it to ourselves as a society to take better care of our children. We are far too complacent about the way they are being educated and the environments they are exposed to.
I agree with you 100%. Our priorities are seriously out of order.
I didn't see that episode of 20/20 - but at least I can say that there is nothing wrong with your "vision".
Best wishes!

To some people their pets are their children. Maybe they've had them longer then their own kids, maybe they've formed a deeper bond, maybe they are addicted to the unconditional love, and maybe their pet treats them better. I wouldn’t value a pet over a relative myself, but I've met people with families that I could understand why they would prefer to be with their pet rather than their kids. Older people can be alone so long with their cat or dog that they start to consider them to be their best friend, regardless of their species. It can be kind of sad, when you think of it, that these people have to resort to animals for reliable companionship because the humans around them don't care. And then again, some people have a screwed up sense of reality.

i've got not got a new child or a puppy, so i will no longer be able to truly answer to no count if or no longer that's achieveable...yet i visit assert that some human beings do have very solid loving relationships with their pets And there are fairly some people who would gladly shell out $5000 if their puppy mandatory surgical operation...and puppy surgical operation isn't low-value, i'm going to permit you comprehend that plenty. Come to think of of it, so some distance as scientific charges, pets are probable greater high priced than toddlers. yet do no longer quote me on that. besides, my question to you is this: Do you have a puppy? Or particularly, do you have a mammalian puppy? in case you do then i think you comprehend sufficient to benefit. in case you do no longer, then each and every little thing you think of roughly this finished assessment is organic hypothesis, and any conclusions would be basically as unqualified as those made via childless puppy proprietors. besides, I say usual there is no experience in being jealous of this form of element. I recommend, you love your new child, appropriate? And your pals love their pets, appropriate? So if all and sundry has somebody to love, then why does it count who loves who greater?

I love my pets and I have a lot of them. I don't have any children so this is going to be a guess. Animals will love you unconditionally. My animals make me feel very proud. Animals don't give a person as much trouble. I think animals are probably more affectionate. It is really hard for me to say, because I don't have any children, but I sure love my pets!!!

I have some theories:
- you know pets will love you know matter what, but children will get mad at you and hold grudges
- pets can't lie
- pets are less able to take care of themselves, so they wouldn't trust strangers with their pets
- there are more laws to protect children, so if someone does something to your kid they will be punished more than if they did something to your pet
- pets don't talk back
- pets dont ask you for new cars

I don't have any children.... but I can tell ya one thing. If I had human children I MIGHT be tempted to love my dogs more!
Cuz my dogs are never gonna say "I hate you!" the way some kids do. They're never going to wreck my car, steal money out of my purse, drink all the juice & put the empty pitcher back in the fridge, etc etc etc. So i'ts easy to see why some folks like their dogs best.

The biggest factor is probably the ability to speak. If the kid is being mistreated he or she can tell mom or dad. The dog or cat can't.
The rest of the attention issues, I can't really see but how about the kids can talk again? Maybe smart *** or rude kids, but pets love unconditionally.

Pets don't give people as hard of a time as children which allows the person to bond easier.

i guess it depends on the person, like i wouldn't love my pet more than my children(when i have children), but i still treat my pets like my children, does that make sense? some people might actually do that camera thing with their children too. so it really depends on the situation and the feelings of the person.
