If Kerry became president and everyone under 30 had to serve for 2 years (military, teaching, at hospital, etc, etc) and someone refused what would happen to him/her? Jail? Kerry had this idea of 2 years of service on his platform back in 04..
I hope not jail because that is what the old USSR did to people who "refuse to participate in social duty".

I find it amusing that all the people who are repulsed or amused by the idea of being `1required to serve this country for two yeas seem to be the same ones who love to wrap themselves in fake patriotic fervor when the discussion of war and terrorism comes up.
Same chickenhawks different subject. There is absolutely nothing wrong with requiring that the citizens who have taken so much from this country give two lousy years of service back. Maybe that can help reduce some of that Fed spending the same folks mentioned above whine so much about.
I agree with you that enforcement may be a bit of a problem but maybe if that service were tied to credit ratings or eligibility for any kind of government assistance, etc, it would be more acceptable.
Yes Kerry's a joke and I cringe to think I ever voted for him but this idea is not a bad one at all.

He must have got the idea from Israel. They require all of their citizens to serve two years in the military.

He mention of two years service is strange because he volunteered for the Navy during Vet Nam and served lest than two.
But not every one that severed had three purple hearts. How unlucky for them.

Kerry is terrible!! He didnt do well last time his ideas are largely ignored. If the draft or anything like it returned there would be a small mutiny in the US.

it wouldnt be a bad idea to make liberals serve. kerry is not genuinely interested in this though, its just a political gimmic.

They told me to smile, it could be worse.. so I smiled.. and sure enough.. it got worse!
Refusal to serve in the past has resulted in jail time.
