Well, like if a guy was in a dark room with a bunch of black people, and he said, man, it's kind of dark in here...no pun intended...hehe Said to make people sure that the talker meant what he said, no hidden meanings intended.

A pun is a use or words with similar sounds like hey and hay used together in the same sentence to provoke a humorous connotation. It's meant to create a play on meaninging of words to make a more humorous statement.
An example would be : Being in politics is just like playing golf: you are trapped in one bad lie after another.
So when someone says "no pun intended" it typically means it was in fact intended and by pointing out the pun itself adds to the humor. You could add "no pun intended" to the end of the above example it would make it even funnier. Other times it may genuinely mean they did not intend a play on words that came out as a pun. It really all depends on the circumstance and situation.

A pun is a play on words in a joking manner. When someone says no pun intended it means the statement that they just made is not meant to be a joke. Like if a person gets caught cheating and I remark "well, he got caught with his pants down. No pun intended." I am saying that he got caught by surprise and I didn't mean it in a joking manner.

A pun is a play on words, usually where one word might have more than one meaning and could be construed as funny. No pun intended means that they have realized that there is some irony in their choice of words, but did not intend to make a joke.

It means, something I said has double meanings, and I just now realized it, and I meant the obvious one. Like for example, if I'm having difficulty fixing the ceiling lamps in the house, I might say I'm taking a break for a "light" snack, and then use the phrase.
Note: Some people use it when they *did* intend it, thus trying to be funny. Sometimes *I* say, "Pun intended!" for similar reasons.

A pun (also known as paronomasia) is a deliberate confusion of similar-sounding words or phrases for rhetorical effect, whether humorous or serious. Humor is more commonly the intent of puns in recent times, but formerly the serious pun was an important and standard rhetorical or poetic device, as in "made glorious summer by this son (sun) of York" in Shakespeare's Richard III

It refers to whatever they said before that. The first thing could have been taken as a play on words (a pun) but they are saying that they didn't mean for it to be taken that way.

If american english is not your Frist language it can be confuseing as heck(Hell) as our words take on different meanings at different times-- and Punmanship is a joking way to play with words and make them funny to others of the same thought process as us.
Mathmaticians puns are not funny to Musicains or Welders. Computer geeks play us DUMMIES around their Mumboe jomboe words all the time.
the words "MAKE OUT" can be made to fit a lot of jokes not intended to mean ==Smooching in the backseat of a 56 buick with all hands out side of the clothing. That was the meaning in 1956. It came to us a pun ===From the 1920's version of" Making out, as if, we were only kissing face to face, but realy he was feeling me UP and DoWn to MAKE the Most OUT of our chaperoned date to send me home with a wet spot in my panties.
play on words you know untill it comes naturally. dont force it.

its a figure of speech. When someone kind of makes a joke but they did not mean to make light of it, they say that.
