Have you recently downloaded WMP11, if so just reboot and it will work.

This is a long shot, but it could be either a corrupted driver, or a missing driver - especially if the speakers didn't come with the computer. If so, go to the speaker manufacturer's website and see if you can download the driver.
Otherwise, just look in the control panel and check the sound settings to see if there is anything weird.
Heck, maybe the speakers are faulty.
Really, anything could be happening :)
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Or it could be your on mute.
Try unplugging them and replugging them. Restart. Go to volume controls and make sure everthing is on.

Try going to Start, right click my computer, click manage, click on device manager, click on sound video and game controllers.
Now I believe that it goes like this, if you see a red x, it means your device is disabled, and you can fix it by right clicking it, and selected enable. If you see a yellow !, that means you need to go to the manufacturers website and download an updated driver.
Most likely, it's just that you sound has just been disabled, and you can enable it by what was stated above.

I think you need a sound driver. Check out Device Manager. Click on the Sound devices and see if there is a yellow ! next to your sound device. If so, go to the manufacturers web site and download one.

If they were working prior and all of a sudden stopped then check for connections.. ie: make sure they are plugged in tightly. .. or perhaps your sound card got misconfigured.. .. check for updates.. also, when something goes wrong with my pc.. I tend to do a system restore to perhaps a day prior.. usually this always corrects the problem.. of course this brings your settings to an earlier date before things started to go wrong.

Open up your volume controls and make sure that nothing is on mute or turned down too low. Also, if your speakers have volume controls on them, be sure you didn't turn the volume down or off.

have you tried going into the control pannel on your computer and checking if the volume is turned on from there? it might just be turned down and you can turn it up with just a few clicks of the mouse.
