Time, kronos in Greek (hence the term chronometer), is in essence an abstract notion but in practicality it signifies the measure of change. Measurement is broken down in units by which change is monitored in a sequence of order - the initials of history as a discipline.
Time as a notion developed from deep philosophical roots. Man's earliest thoughts were concentrated on the fact that things change. Why, early philosophers wondered, did things change and nothing remain stable? Time became that transition of events that marked periods of change, such as day to night, seasons of the year, astrological signs in the heavens. These things seemed to effect plant deterioration then re-growth, for example. Little by little means were developed to monitor these movements of change and break it down into smaller periods. Hence seasons could be broken into moon phases, days into sun positioning, etc.
Time probably has a different connotation today. If I recall correctly, time has to do with a unit in measure of space continuum. I don't know much on that but at least you can get an understanding of its origins.

Time is a measurement - a unit.
To create a "Time frame" you need to define the unit of time: second, minute, hour, day, week, month, year, decade ... and so on. However, these measurement of time are based of the "Sun" and the Earth's position to the Sun.
Should you want to expand time, then you could look at Galactic time ... and create new measurement on how many times our Solar System goes around the galaxy (if in fact it does).
Further than a Galaxy, we would need to find a center point to base a measurement on. Some say the "Big Bang" is the center of all existence ... and if this proved to be scientifically true, then we could create units of time about how many times our Galaxy rotated around this. However, many scientists say that the Universe has no pattern.
Now if you were an omnipotent being --- the Alpha and Omega --- Beginning and End ...well time would be everything and nothing at the same time.

Time is an abstract qualty that is capable of division into units of duration.
Time is a property of the universe. Therefore, time does not exists without the universe. The frequently asked question "what was there before the universe?" has no meaning. Without the universe, time doesn't exist.
Before the universe began and after the universe ends time is nonexistant.
There rate of flow of time is not uniform. The faster you are traveling the slower time moves. An astronaut who leaves earth and travels at 10% of the speed of light, upon returing to earth 1 month later, would be shocked to learn that eveyone he knew had died of old age, while he only aged 30 days.
At the speed of light, time does not move at all, and is therefore irelevent.

There are two distinct views on the meaning of time. One view is that time is part of the fundamental structure of the universe, a dimension in which events occur in sequence, and time itself is something that can be measured. This is the realist's view, to which Sir Isaac Newton subscribed.[1]
A contrasting view is that time is part of the fundamental intellectual structure (together with space and number) within which we sequence events, quantify the duration of events and the intervals between them, and compare the motions of objects. In this view, time does not refer to any kind of entity that "flows", that objects "move through", or that is a "container" for events. This view is in the tradition of Gottfried Leibniz[2] and Immanuel Kant,[3][4] in which time, rather than being an objective thing to be measured, is part of the mental measuring system. The question, perhaps overly simplified and allowing for no middle ground, is thus: is time a "real thing" that is "all around us", or is it nothing more than a way of speaking about and measuring events?

Man and natural man are the same for there is no thing outside of nature. Time is natural mans ability to retain memory according to his real sensory experience of events around and their objective relations to each other. The abstraction of that ability was consequent to the ability to ascribe a time as relative position of one object in relation to an other object (before, after, first this then this) as a necessity of production. Time as a concept is a part of self consciousness evolvement.

That's easy, First, time is not seconds, minutes, hours or years. Those are names for it. time is the perceived observation of 1 moment to next in any given reality. And Yes time can exist without the Universe, and Yes time does exist outside yourself. Everyone is so damn self-righteous to think that time would not be there without them or without our universe or without our brains. As Kant says just because ur are not looking at the clock doesn't mean it is not ticking. Thank you and Goodnight.

Time depends on what your asking, time can mean in measurements, lightening strikes, hour of time, time zone, but to me is there is a time to laugh, time to cry, time to pray, you have a time to be a work, everyday life you live by time. You go to bed by time, you get up by time, you eat there is time, you die by time. You can get away from time. Your time of birth is recorded and your time of death is recorded and your whole life is by time.

I think the difference between time and eternity, is that eternity is the TOTAL reality, while time is composed (in earlier, later sequence) of the ASPECTS of reality. Dont ask me what I mean. I dont really know.
