i was in class the other day and one of our class conversations drifted off and some girl was telling about a movie she had seen where a woman is pregnant by a man and she's with a girl now and when my teacher heard that she said "EWW". why do some people think being gay is wrong or nasty?

Yes, the folks who quote the Bible about how wrong it is to be gay are right about that particular part of the Bible, they quickly forget that it also says "Judge Not ... For You Shall Be Judged". People are afraid of things that they see as different. Ignorance and family values play a huge role in the way people act and live. Nobody has to agree with how someone else chooses to live their life. They do not even have to like it but they should not be disrespectful towards people who are different for ANY reason. I have many gay and bi friends and although I do not agree with the way they choose to live their lives, they are good people and I enjoy spending time with them. Many have found the first "healthy" relationship of their lives and I am happy for them. I do not have to live their life, but that doesn't mean I cannot be a positive part of it.
It all boils down to respect and how people are raised.

People are just naturally afraid of helpful people. We have to help people be more helpful. If happy people are called helpful people then maybe we all can be helpful people and that will make us all happy people too. What do you think? It is really best to be helpful don't you agree? Helpful is really normal, agreed? Good now that we all agree we can all have a happy helpful time together. Then we will not be afraid of helpful people any more. Now don't we all feel so much better? We are not afraid any more. Why does everyone have to be so afraid anyway? It is all better. It is always going to be better now that we are all so helpful.

Then you should have said, "I don't think its right for you to say, "eww" when there is so much unhappiness in the world. Why shouldn't 2 people be allowed to find it where they can?" Teachers are people too and want to be the center of attention. They too can mock people to gain attention. Just ignore her or point out her error, your choice.

I guess it is the same as with any other type of discrimination--the way you were raised, personal experiences (if any at all) with the target group, what your friends have told you, media stereotypes, etc. Attitudes based on those inputs can be changed, of course, but most don't choose to put out that kind of effort.

good ole church learning-- it's hard to get past all the brain washing that Americans get in church.
I am curious..... how did you react to the laughter? Are you a strong enough individual to stand up to the insults and speak your mind. It doesn't matter if you're gay or not. It's the same for sexist comments, racial comments, fat comments, etc.

I don't know. I hate homophobes when they ridicule someone because they are gay. Who cares? NOTHING is wrong with gays. Homophobes are insecure with themselves, so they resort to making fun of someone who is different. They're just jerks.
Just so you know, I am straight and have a gf.

I think it's something in their mind, not something they can explain. It's just a feeling some people (mostly straight) get when they hear or see it. it doesn't mean they want gays to be killed. also, the ones who do, i think it's because of the bible. they believe, that if that happens in a country, all of the country will be whipped out by god's word. like in Sodom. these people are more "mind", and the other people are more "feel".
