I work part-time in my university's library. On the weekend, there are no senior employees working in the library. We're usually very quiet on the weekend and often only have a handful of customers all afternoon.

Today, a man came into the library. He was a recent immigrant from a Middle Eastern country, and I would say he was about thirty years older than me. He came to the desk and started asking me questions about how the library was run. I tried to be polite but told him that I couldn't give out that information; he would have to come back on a business day and talk to a supervisor.

Then, he started asking me for directions to many places all over the campus. I gave him a map, drew some paths and acted like I was busy. The man left.

About an hour later, the man came back. He showed me his library card and asked me which days I worked in the library. I made up some fake information, and he told me, "See? We were destined to meet..."

I basically couldn't get him to leave me alone until another customer came. He just wouldn't leave my desk. My co-workers (who are a lot older) could see that he wouldn't leave me alone, but they didn't do anything.

When the library closed, I found him waiting outside to say goodbye. I politely said goodbye and then ducked around a corner, down a staircase and through a door. I don't know if he tried to follow me or not.

Did this guy cross the line? As soon as he said that thing about destiny I got really uncomfortable, but I don't know if it was a cultural thing or a creepy thing.

Thoughts?

contact campus security as soon as possible. have them escort you to and from your job. if they are not available, contact the local authorities. let them know your feelings about the encounter, and give them all the details.

please please be safe!

I work retail and get customers like this quite frequently. It's actually become somewhat of a joke, "oh, who's her stalker this week."

I understand that it's scary and very uncomfortable. If he continues to come back and bother you don't hesitate to ask security to remove him. And never walk to your car alone.
