MY husband has strep throat, and I am 38 weeks, dialated 2, could go into labor soon. I want him to be with me, and get to hold his son after he is born, Will they let him while he has strep? I may just be paronoid, seeing how I don't think I am in Labor yet.
On that point, is having period like cramps, normal right now? It's all in my back, not my stomach. My stomach doesn't feel like it is hard or contracting, just my back feels like I just started my period. Do you think it is the baby sitting on something??
Thanks!

If your husband is on an antibiotic to treat his strep throat he should not have any problems being with you in the hospital and holding the baby after he is born. It varies from what different doctors will tell you, but sometime within 24-48 hours after beginning the antibiotic you are not contagious any longer. I have had strep throat numerous times. My doctor says 48 hours on antibiotics and I am no longer contagious, but some people I know have doctors who say 24 hours. It is normal for babies to come some time in the 37-42 week. It is also normal to be dilated for a couple weeks or more before going into labor. Some women do have back labor (sometimes because baby is in a posterior position which means he is "face-up" - he is facing your abdomen instead of your back, my second and third babies were this way and I had a lot of back labor with both of them). If the cramping becomes quite regular you may want to contact your doctor to ask about it. Here is a good website with some tips to ease pain during back labor http://pregnancy.about.com/od/laborcomplications/a/backlabor.htm

I have had strep throat several times and each time the symptoms were different. In one case, I did not realize I even had it! If it is strep throat it may be part of another problem. I think some of the symptoms are more than Flu or Strep throat condition or at least a combination of them. If your doctor did no further tests (blood work, etc.) then he is not likely a person you want to go continue seeing. I would suggest looking for a more sensitive and understanding doctor. If you want to stay with him, than politely request assertively that he do a "lot" more to determine what the problem is and how to treat it. That you and your husband are very concerned about the long-term affects of not treating a possible strep-throat or other possible undiagnosed conditions. Remember half of the doctors graduated at the lower half of their class!

Sounds like the beginning of back labor, which is labor. You may have awhile to go yet though. As for your husband, if he has been on antibiotics for at least 24 hrs, they should let him in, they will make him wear a mask at all times though. Good Luck and Congrats!!!

I'm not sure about your husband.. they could say he won't be able to go in with you.. but then again they might just make him wear the mask over his mouth... so you and the baby don't get anything.. usually back pain is a sign you might be going into labor soon.. congrats and goodluck

I think that you should call the hospital and ask what they are going to do...my partner was admitted to hospital 3days before my due date with what turned out to be a cold sore on his eye but they couldn't decide if it was something like shingles...someone broke my heart when they said it wasn't safe for him to come near me or our baby when I went in to labour, so I would have to deliver our baby alone...then they changed their minds and got me a private room to labour in, and just covered up my man's poorly eye. He couldn't cuddle our baby for long, and just when I had got to part of labour when I was really really scared, and not far from delivering, they called him back to his ward to get his tablets...he was only gone for half an hour, but it seemed like an eternity. He got back in time to help me push though, and was there for the greatest moment of our lives when Angel was born.
Wow, I don't know why I just told you all that, but I think my point was that you should see what your hospital team are willing to do for you.

Know the asteroid wellhead tonsil stones them for many years and it's been title not eventually.
Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.

strep is not considered contagious after being on antibiotics for 24 hours, as long as your husband gets some meds and takes them as he is supposed to then i can;t see him still having it when your baby comes. So I don;t think you have to worry.
