Why do people have such loyality to football teams?I have a friend who lives in Islington yet despite his proximity to Ashburton Grove and all the glory Arsenal have had in the last 18 years is a diehard Spurs man.West Ham's recent history is filled with promotion quickly followed by relegation yet the fan base never really changes, likewise Newcastle have not won a thing for 40 odd years but have a waiting list for season ticket applications. On the other hand Chelsea for all there recent success adverise there CL games on local radio (Capital FM) and cannot fill there ground .The players earn more in a week than many earn in a year and in some cases in 2 years, are not really worth the money (look at how the English players perform at international level). It can cost nearly £100 to see a prem game, and the club shops exploit the fans loyalty with exhorbitant prices for souvernirs.(polyester shirts are not worth £50 whatever badge they have).City fans why not go to Utd who win things?

I think some of it has to do with family. In baseball, My family has rooted for the same team for over 80 years. Now my family has rooted for the same football team for over twenty years. It is heresy to root for another team in my family. Also, souveneirs and tickets are worth whatever the buyer places upon it. My Rangers FC kit is worth to the price I paid for it, because I can not find it in America, likewise, paying the ticket prices is all about how much actually going to the games is worth.
