According to guidance available from the DTI website, they must still display the (16?) most common drinks on a price list, which should be clearly legible without any assistance from staff (i.e. having to ask for the price). However, the owner of our local pub says that new EU legislation was introduced in 2006, saying this requirement was no longer mandatory.

Is this correct and, if so, does anyone know where this legislation can be found?

every establishment is required to display prices clearly and accurately for every item they sell. or a price list should be available upon request.
failing to display or provide an accurate price or price list could land the retailer in this case the pub with a hefty fine. should someone report the pub to trading standards and if they decide to prosecute.
ask your local trading standards office for guidance as my information may be out of date.
