i think it was rock around the clock by bill hayley and the comets
or rip it up, which was a little richard song, but b.h. had more success with it, at the same time elvis was coming into the charts as well, although his first hit was i think jailhouse rock in 1959

The song you were looking for, is "YOUNG LOVE", by a guy, called "TAB HUNTER"! Incidentally, - just in case you were AROUND, in the '70s, - Donny Osmond, ALSO took it into the UK chart, - around 1973, or 1974!
