My guess: Born with it for the most part.

You can't seriously tell me that if it was a choice, that people would voluntarily place themselves in a group that is on the receiving end of so much hatred, bigotry, ignorance, etc. That ignorance is not only reflected in individual actions, but in institutional treatment of LGBT folks as well.

Yeah, I'm sure folks are lining up to get them some of that treatment. Not.

It is not a choice. I have never had an attraction towards women. Yes, I can tell when a female is beautiful, etc, but there is no physical attraction there. You are you who are at your most fundamental levels because you are born that way. Some like to say it's a choice, but when you ask them if they ever had a period when they chose to be gay, straight or bisexual they always so "no, I've always been straight." It's the same for someone who is gay. We struggle with our sexuality more because we know being open about ourselves means having to deal with the positive and negative reactions of people in this world. Also, is it really was a choice do you think most people would choose to be ridiculed and treated as less human by a chunk of the population?

its not a choice you are born with a your sexual preference.
I'm straight always have been since birth and always will be till the day I die never had a choice in the matter. Being gay is no different for gay people than being straight is to straight
people. One can lie to themselves and say that they are gay and live a gay lifestyle but they can never run away from their true sexual feelings towards their sexual preference that they were born with. If you are gay odds are you were born that way and had no choice in the matter.

When we talked about this in history class, most people said they thought gay people were born with it. At first I couldn't understand how people are born with being gay but now I realize that people don't just decide to be criticized.

It's clearly a choice.

I used to be straight, but then one day I looked at a bunch of straight guys beating up a gay kid and thought to myself "wow! being gay looks so easy!" So a magically decided to stop being straight and only like other guys.

Because, straight people, can't you all just decide to be gay?

Okay, this was all a lie. I was born gay. I didn't choose to be. The only people who think you can choose to be gay are people who are not gay and therefor wouldn't know anyways.

And if we could choose our sexual preferences, wouldn't everybody just be bisexual?

born that way. but if it's not, why persecute someone for the choices they make.

does it really matter though, it's not going to change anything. there are still going to be gay people.

i love it. i wouldn't change it for the world. it's given me so much happiness and so many more options that if I were straight.

Neither. I don't think it's genetic, but I don't think anyone can consciously choose or change their sexuality. I believe it's a delicious mixture of environment, personality, childhood experiences, psychological development- the same as for any sexuality.

Or, if current research's that leans toward it being genetic, as it seems to be doing, then I still don't think our sexuality is innately determined. I've seen too many things happen to say it's not. Rather, like most things in this world, it's probably a complex interaction between genetics and socialization, psychology, personality, environment, development, etc..
