Balance NH4OH + HC2H3O2 → NHC2H3O2 + H2O

The number of atoms on each side of the equation:
N 1 1
C 2 2
H 9 6
O 3 3

Start with N. There is only one so the coefficients of
NH4OH and NHC2H3O2
have to be the same.

Next C. There are two and on each side and both are in only one of the molecules. So the coefficients of
HC2H3O2 and NHC2H3O2
have to be the same.

By extension then, the coefficients of
NH4OH and NHC2H3O2 and HC2H3O2
have to be the same.

Next O. There are three of each. If the coefficients of
NH4OH and NHC2H3O2 and HC2H3O2
are the same then the coefficient of H2O must be the same as well. All four must be the same.

But that leaves H unbalanced. The equation cannot be balanced.

The equation is already balanced
But is 'HC2H3O2' the normal way of writing a formula?
