You will need to take at least 120 hours of classes (that is the minimum, some states can require more). Pass your states test, and have 2000 hours of trainee experience. The class hours will increase in 2008. You can take all of the class hours online. Several reputable sites you can take the classes at are: www.appraisalinstitute.com, www.mckissock.com. It doesnt matter which order you take them in, but I advise to take the 30 hour general course first to get a good base.

Keep in mind the hardest part of becoming an appraiser is finding someone to train you! If you are serious about it I would advise to find an appraiser or appraisal firm that will commit to training you before you begin. I get calls weekly from people who have finished all the classes and passed the test and are desperate for someone to train them. Most appraisers dont like to train their competition!
