I used to play high school football and was starting QB at well ill say a school in northern california redwood shores to be exact.
I was named starter at my sophomore season and i quit playing football during my senior season because i had too much work.
I got cussed out the day i did not try out for the football team and told my friend im not trying out. My team was the 2nd best in the county and had only 1 loss. In the senior season i did not play they had 6 losses. And i almost got jumped by my former teammates. People made threats towards me. I only have 2 friends left. What should i have done, i am thinking about trying out and getting out of northern california for college. Im trying to go for college football but why were people so mean to me?

it's because you suck at football and life

It's not your fault, so don't think that. They were losing and they're trying to say that it's your fault. Obviously they feel deeply about winning all the time, and can't handle a loss. I mean, if you HAD to do other things, then you have to do them. If you were amazing at football and that was your only way into a college, then you should have stuck with that. But if you want to get into college with booksmarts then I'd go for that. But they were just being sore losers. I would be careful though, and try to stick with those friends you have left. This just shows who you're true friends are...

Quit patting yourself on the back, no one individual is responsible for 6 losses on a football team. If they were a good team then they wouldn't of had that many losses. They just sucked and it is no ones fault but their own. Even if you would've played they would've still had six losses, it doesn't matter. If they were blaming you that means that they sucked in football and they are idiots. That's all.

People are mad at you because they admired you as a player. People love to see their teams win and admire their best players. What if your favorite player on your favorite team left because he didn't like the coaches? Wouldn't you be mad at him? All the people at your school are doing the same thing. What you should've done? You should've tried out, played the season. I know you said you have too much work. What I do sometimes if I have too much work is I tell my coaches I have too much homework and he's fine with it. What you should do now? Talk to you're parents or just be nice to your old friends. If they're not nice back, there's something wrong with THEM!

Are you kidding me? Football is the ultimate team sport. In high school it is a four year commitment. You can't play starting QB and be a leader of the team for two years and your Senior year decide you don't want to play anymore. For the seniors it is their last chance and without a decent QB you cant win at any level. You cost them their season that is why everyone is mad. I'm a senior in high school and our QB started as a sophomore and if he wouldn't have played this year I would have beaten him up so bad hi mom wouldn't be able to recognize him. But he did play and we won back to back conference championships. Without him we wouldn't have won half our games. You are just a bad teammate and friend.

they probably knew that the team wouldnt be any good without you, and perhaps felt you were letting them down. they werent much good friends if this is how they treat you.
however you were right to stop if you had too much work, in later life you will be happy about your choice, even if you dont right now. perhaps you could explain to them why you made your choice, at its not fair you are being bullied to play football if you dont want to. perhaps they will realise how unreasonable they are being and apologise.

Because you are such a legend in your own mind that you actually threw this question out to a forum of strangers, hoping to be praised one last time for what was probably the last success that you expirienced in life. Why don't you just send yourself flowers?

Because according to them you were supposed to put their needs for victory over your own concerns.

You shouldn't have to feel obligated to play if you decide that other things are more important.

There's no reason they should have done that.

It's your decision, and if you wanted to move in a different direction, that's your choice.

Just ignore them.
