I'm from canada, I've never met anyone with a southern accent. only I see them on tv. I want a southern accent because I am tired of sounding like everyone else.

Trust me, you don't want one. I live in Alabama, and they are horrid. Choose a British one instead.
Watch a lot of television shows and movies, and just imitate the people. You'll get better over time.

A southern accent does not make you sound unintelligent. There are different kinds of southern accents. You have your Cajun, hillbilly, backwoods, and then your southern. Sorry, I don't know how to get a southern accent for I have always had one. Just rent some movies that take place in the south (Steel Magnolias maybe) and try to emulate them.

Well being from the South I have to say it's a God given thing y'all.
Then you could also listen to some Jeff Foxworthy or Larry the Cable Guy.

go live down south for a few years, you'll pick one up. don't expect to keep it though unless you stay there. we southerners don't mind the use of our accent while you are living down here, but don't want it polluted in other parts of the world
