" A number of trial balloons have been floated in recent days, from Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge specifically, about canceling or postponing the national election because of a terrorist attack. DeForest B. Soaries Jr., the Bush-appointed chairman of the newly minted U.S. Election Assistance Commission, apparently got the ball rolling with Ridge by writing a letter to him. In it, he bade Ridge ask Congress for the power to put off the November election in the event of an attack."

So he can declare himself " President for Life". Not likely even though there had been discussions to that effect in 2004 by DHS.
It had been posited if there was a terrorist attack, what steps would be taken to cancel if not postpone a federal election.
If there was even a smell of that, we might start looking like Iraq because the majority of the American people will not sit idly by and let him get away with it.

How possible do I think Bush has the authority to do such a thing? It is NOT possible. The president lacks such authority. In all instances, the government must defer to the Constitution of the United States, which supercedes all branches of government in authority. The Constitution does not grant such power to the president. Unless every citizen in the United States is being held hostage by a foreign power, in November 2008, it is a certainty the elections will go forward as scheduled. Bush can sign as many imaginary Executive Orders as he may wish, but those delusional statements do not change the supreme law of the land.

relies upon the balloting favoring which applicants... i think of of they might bypass alongside with their plan if any of the CFR persons would have been given a gamble to get elected and proceed the paintings. yet from each and every of the precautions he has taken to get his patriot act into existence, and the CDC Anthrax element, i'm exceptionally useful that he assume making use of it a mindset or diverse to acertain its potential over the U. S.... additionally, with the present AL-Quaeda warning and ''warning signs and warning signs'' feeled via utilising Chertoff, i think he won't wait too long interior the previous allowing this act, just to now no longer seem too lots on the factor of to the election to look suspicious... So all in all, they're over 50% danger that he will definitly perform a little element alongside along with his patriot act, yet wether or now no longer he will cancel the election or placed off it, its yet yet another count... we are able to be sure rapidly, regrettably!!

That, my friend, is a question for good ol' Bin Laden. I don't have a crystal ball and certainly do not have pyschic abilities but all I can tell you is that although he MAY (i stress "may") have the power too, it is unlikely that a terrorist event will correspond with the november elections.
But...in the terrorist world....Just any where other than the U.S., 9/11=November 9. So who knows?
If it did, it would make history, and him the first dictator of our country.

Of course he is likely to try. I thought I would find out more about him and I did. I read a very interesting book I am recommending to everyone. "You're Not Stupid! Get The Truth" by William John Cox.

Your joking right. No one has the power to cancel an election, not unless both the House and Senate voted a 2/3 majority vote.

I don't think it's very possible... there would have to be like a huge terrorist attack like the day/week before...
and even if that did happen, you would still see TONS of unhappy people and protests and some violence...
highly unlikely... and highly dangerous if it did happen...

That will only put off the inevitable, unless he scares the masses to the point of hysteria. Maybe a tidal wave will be coming, along with nuclear bombs from al Quaida in Iraq filled with the bird flu, and they just cut off the head of the last polar bear. Maybe we will put it off.

Impossible. He doesn't have the authority even if he wanted to do so. But it's so much fun to read about all the wacko's conspiracy theories about such things. Wacko.
