If you haven't already, do a partial water change right away. The water may be making him sick from waste buildup........especially if it's a fairly new tank. The tank has to build up good bacteria that will keep waste in check.........but that takes time. No matter what, the first thing I would do for a sick fish is to do the partial water change. It won't hurt, and it may help.

In case you're new to aquariums.............for a partial water change remove 1/4 to 1/3 of the water.....no more.....and replace it with fresh water along with a water conditioner that neutralizes chlorine. You can find that in the fish department of Walmart.

Good luck! :)

It is possible to still save the fish.

At this point in time, it could be anything. I have found that the best stuff for fungal and bacterial is Melafix and Pimafix. Melafix is used mostly for bacterial infections and Pimafix is used for fungus, but they are very efective working togther, and they do not mess with the biological filter. They work with both salt and fresh water. Use them in conjuction with a parasite medication, as parasites can cause secondary infections

I suggest that you check the pH, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, and temperature. All these factors could cause the fish to sink to the bottom, and it can also cause a color change.

When fish are sick, they often lose their color, but this also happens when the pH is too high or low.

Depending on the fish will depend on the correct pH. Since I don't know what fish you have, the best thing to do, is to look up online for information about your fish. just type in the name of the fish into yahooo search bar. Most fish perfer and are happy in a pH of 7.0, but this changes depending on the fish and tye of water.

It may also be that the fish is old and it is just its time to go

If you can try to look at it, you may be able to see things gorwing or crawling on it. also, if it poops, look at it, and if it appears stringy, it most likely has internal parasites.

My fav treatment, as it doesn thurt plants or the biogical system, is parasite clear by Jungle something. they are tablets that dissolve, however i think they can only be sued in freshwater, but you may want to check.

If you have a high level of ammonia or any other chemical, use Prime by Seachem, again can be used in both fresh and saltwater. This will quickly elemenate any traces of bad chemicals in your tank.

A water change may help too. do like a 20% water change if the levels of ammonia or nitrate/nitrites are high. Keep using Prime with every water change. its a little expensive, but it works very fast.

Alexandra,

Without being able to see your fish, there's not much we can tell you to do. It you don't see any signs of parasites or physical signs of illness (red streaks on fins, frayed fins, etc.) this makes what's going on difficult to diagnose. Is this fish freshwater or saltwater? When was the last time you did a water change? Do you have a heater and is the water the proper temperature? What kind of fish and how long have you had it? If you could provide more info, someone might be able to give a better answer.

I'm giving you a link that lists the more common problems & their symptoms - click on the name of the disease ("Disease Title") and it will tell you how to treat the illness.

Hope this website helps! If not, try providing as many answers as you can to the questions I asked above.

what kind of fish is it? how big is his home and what does he live with? some fish sit when they get cold -- it might also be an early sign of your water is getting chemical buildup of ammonias, nitrites or nitrates try to warm the water and do a gravel vacuum and change about 1/4 of the water.

Dude, there's not a lot of info. to go on so I can't really help you. How old is your fish? What type is it? Add more details to your question to get better answers.

Don't waste your time worring about a fish that you probably can't do anything about.

Fish are extremely sensitive to any changes. the slightest thing and they are done.

I suggest just going and getting a new fish. Possibly one that is not to expensive that way if it dies it would not be too much of a loss.

Try feeding it. If it's old, it is probably going to die. If it's still young, it might live.
