It was Eastman's particular patented three-print technology that became the standard and was not allowed to be used except by permission, so it became a status symbol to be able to use it. The first camera that actually shot in color was in use in about 1925 but was so expensive nobody actually could afford to use it, so of course in the earliest days of Hollywood they did color after-the-fact, but not so Eastman, which was live.

Eastman was the guy who invented color photography and and almost anything related back then (actually wayyyy before that... it was during the late 19th century and early 20th!). Apparently they did have color cameras back then, but perhaps not as commercialised and affordable as it is now. His company's name was Eastman Dry Plate & Company, then he later changed it to Eastman Kodak Company.

"Eastman" refers to the Eastman Kodak company. This generally meant that the film's originals were shot with Eastman Kodak color film. The company was a huge innovator in photography in both the realm of black-and-white and color; the company was the first to commercially produce transparent photographic film as we know it today.
