What you have stumbled upon here is what they refer to as an "inexact science". Or as I like to say: "Any philosophic explanation is going to be both false and true precisely because it is a philosophic explanation."

In my (very) humble opinion, and I am very biased, the answer is no...no love at all is better. I have done nothing but get myself into trouble with the latter of the two.

can you love someone without the love being returned?

if you answer yes, then its good to know. if the answer is no, you are bound to have dark nights someday.

it sounds like your love is reflected upon another persons love. depending on how they feel changes the way you feel. are you being real to yourself?

No. Seriously. Occupy your time elsewhere. If they dont make it clear then they dont love you. An unrequited love is fruitless.
