I think there should only be on Miss America contest. What next..Miss White America, Miss Asian America, Miss Latina America, Miss Middle Eastern America? It's kinda dumb since we are all America and all too often the same people hollaring racism are the same ones segregating themselves.

The Miss Black America competition was started in 1969 as a way to honor the beauty and talents of Black women who were not given fair representation in the Miss America pageants. Now it is more a matter of tradition more than anything else. It also gives black women, who are still not generally viewed as the standard of "American Beauty", a chance to be appreciated and admired. What people are not taking into account is the race specific organizations were started for a reason. If minorities had been given equal representation in all aspects of society it would have never been necessary and we would not be having this conversation. Furthermore, I still don't see a fair representation of black women in the miss America pageants. Including Vanessa Williams there has been a total of 5 Black winners in the 86 years since the pageant started. So until America begins to equally appreciate black women, yes we need the Miss Black America pageant.

When she won that pageant there was heavy criticism from the black community that she wasn't "black" enough, and they had a point. She was very light skinned. But what will be the requirements then for a Ms. Black America? A minimum darkness requirement? What about a white girl that dates black men...shouldn't she be able to compete? Anyway, Ms. Williams had the title taken from her because of some racy pictures she posed for.

First of all, Vanessa Williams shouldn't have to represent a status quo for all aspiring Ms. Black America.
Secondly,there are a lot of different pageants....Mrs. America (married women), etc. I think it's great there is a Ms. Black America. Black women are beautiful and should strut their stuff on stage!
How does it affect your life that a Ms. Black America exists? I'm waiting for Mrs. Native America, myself. LOL.

She won and then lost her title due to some naked pictures, I believe. But No, one Ms. America pageant is enough and it should include everyone.

For the racist out there they still want it.
Tell me those who still want a Ms Black America how they would blow a gasket if we had a Ms White America.
It is racism pure and simple to have a criteria as race to be in it.
