this doesn't really answer your question...
but I'd like to share my experiences with it..

I was pretty much depressed from age 18 - 24 1/2

in the middle of that was the worst.
sleeping 17 hours a day.
complete hopelessness...

but I'm almost 28 now and
have been a steady optimist for a few years...

I think experiencing depression gives us appreciation and shows us values of life after the fact...

I also read depressions occur as a preperation to a new sense of consiousness...

hang in there.....

It depends on how much of the time you are sad. If what you just described is your feeling sometimes, then no. Everyone gets sad sometimes. Are you sometimes not able to enjoy things you used to? The following are some symptoms:
Feeling hopeless, sad, discouraged, or empty.

Loss of interest or pleasure

Appetite or weight changes

Sleep changes

Psychomotor agitation or retardation
“.

Fatigue or loss of energy

Self-loathing

Concentration problems

Irritability

Aches and pains

Everybody can suffer from the different symptoms of depression to different degrees at some point. To find out if you are truly clinically depressed, the best thing to do would be to see a professional that is recommended by people you trust. Mental illness is very tricky and can be mis-diagnosed often, even by doctors.

more people deal with depression during the winter months. some symptoms are wanting to be alone, feeling helpless or hopeless, tired, loss of energy, loss of appetite, or on the other hand increase of appetite, thought of suicide or harming self or others, not sleeping well... the list goes on. There are prescription medication for these types of symptoms, or fight it your self by yoga, exercise, being with friends, even having a pet to talk to can help, praying also helps!

I've suffered minor bouts of depression before. You just feel like you're spent, unmotivated and tired. You feel hopeless, like you can't get things right and sense disapproval from others(even when it isn't true). It's a hole you don't want to get in, but it's not one you can't get out of either. Want to defeat it? Then plan your days. Make a list of things you need to do and more importantly, things you WANT to do. If you always keep yourself busy, you'll have no time to be depressed! it works, go for it. 8)
