Flog is an ancient punishment. The Romans typically would whip you with a "cat of nine tails" which was basically a whip with nine ends and each whip had pieces of glass and things like that so it would tear all the skin off you. Typically a flogging would include being struck up to forty times with the cat of nine tails. Of course, that much abuse would be enough to put you on the edge of death anyway.
I seriously doubt your friend intends to flog you.
