Is it "dull" that Jesse James once got bitten on the forehead by an ant, and at first it didn't seem like anything, but then the bite got worse and worse, so he went to a doctor in town, and the secretary told him to wait, so he sat down and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and then finally he got to see the doctor, and the doctor put some salve on it? You call that dull?

LMAO. Many kids in school hate history. Having been doing genealogy for 20= yrs, all of a sudden, history becomes relevant and personal. Turned my thinking all the way around. I still have little interest in world issues, hate politics with a passion.
But, to each their own. Other people live and breathe to bungee jump, and you won't see me doing that for a million dollars.
The dullest thing in the world would be if we all were carbon copies of each other, with nothing unique about what we like.

If they think history is dull, it is partly their problem, and partly the problem of not finding a good historical book from any period of history from anywhere in the world. Last night I saw a National Geographic program on Mount Vesuvius, the volcano which has erupted many times in Italy, and which is quite close to Naples.
I knew about Pompeii, as many people do, what I did not about was the city of Herculaeum, now called Herculano. Both cities were fairly well preserved under all the volcanic rock. Dull? Not at all!

If told that Pizza was a boring food lacking originality and that there was nothing to be happy about when eating it, coupled with absolutely no enthusiasm about getting a pie and fighting over the toppings that were left in the box or on the tray, then one may very well develop an opinion that pizza is dull. However, social clues tell us that pizza is exciting because of the variety of toppings, the cheese that strings all over, the toppings in the box, and the excitement that everybody shares over pizza and the way its treated differently from other foods.
Most people who think history is dull have been conditioned to think that way from cues given them by others.

I find some history dull. Especially the "Old West." I am not into the pioneer's and civil war. I like more of the ancient stuff like the Egyptians and Mayan histories.

If you find it dull, I guess people will just be so shocked when they thought something happened for the first time in history...
...only to realize that history has repeated itself again.
If you don't know your past, you'll never know your future.

The way most teachers and text books teach it, it is dull. But, it should be fun and exciting. Text books are boring.

Most of my history teachers were about as exiting as a dead snail and the way they taught history was equally thrilling. Much like your story actually.
