Being of around that age, and having watched some of my friends go through it, I think it is reaching a time when you suddenly realise that you have more history than future. You thus start to rebel against the inevitable march of time by trying to recapture your youth, or the feelings you had when you were young.

This typically manifests itself by:
a) taking a mistress
b) buying a motrobike or sports car
c) wearing lots of jewellry

Seriously, though, it is the pessimists among my friends who have suffered this. Other friends, like myself, who are born optimists seem to avoid the syndrome. Personally, I think I escaped it because I never look back, only forward

at 50 i bought myself a Miata, and have been fine since. cheaper than counseling, vacations, figuring things out, works a treat (and that was 14 years ago)

it relates lots of sicknesses n diseases v've to face,e.g. diabetic,hypertension,gout,cancers etc.cos the older v r the less resistance is our body.
