i would pass - number 1 reason why - all it is an baseline ecotech engine with a supercharger on top - im pretty sure they do nothing to the internals to compensate for the added psi from the supercharger. so not only are you looking at the headaches of a regular gm engine but one thats life will be more stressed due to higher combustion ratios. if you want something sporty this car does not work for you - it has no limited slip differential and no independent suspension in the back. pass on it and get something that will last longer and perform better

Cobalt SS Supercharged is a great car. Yes, it replaced the cavilier but is a completely different car. The cobalt is based on a delta platform. Cavilier was based on the Jbody. I have a cobalt w/ just a CAI and I ran a 1/4 mile in 14.3. do a full exhaust and you'll be in the high 13's. Civic Si's cant compete with the ss supercharged, and the Gti's are a tad slower. If you have any questions definetly check out cobaltss.net

the only thing that can beat it are the 2 wheel drive dodge srt-4( if they still make it), the 4 wheel drive wrx or evo viii. good luck!!!
as far as lasting, these people that are answering, probably don't take good care of their vehicles to begin with. so they opt w/ vehicles with 10,000mi service intervals that are more expensive.
i have a '97 z71 p/u with 180,000 mi and a '99 malibu with 130,000mi. keep regular service on them as required. both r good vehicles. the only major repair on either was a water pump and alternator.

Its a Cavalier man, just a fancy new name with more power.
Do as the others say.. get a car with a limited slip, something that can handle a little bit of torque, and save yourself alot of headache (and it will still have some resale) in the end... its not as great as they claim it to be...
Chevys havent changed much over the years.. they were right with their slogan. Like a rock.. sink just as fast.

I have one. The eco tech internals were changed out. Pistons are capable of 300hp which is basically the "weakest" link...300hp is alot for one of those cars being they come 205 stock with 0-60 in 6sec. Check out cobaltss.net were always able to help in there. Really this car is a blast!! get one you wont be dissapointed.

The 2.0 Ecotec motor is a de-stroked version of the 2.2 Ecotec.
With 14 psi. of boost and a moderate 9.5 compression, steel crankshaft you should have a winner with G.M.'s 5 yr. 100k warranty wou can't loose. With 200 foot lbs. (lb-ft) @4400 rpm and 205 horsepower @ 6000. rpm. sounds pretty stout. Torque makes it on the street. With pull to top hp.@ 6,000 rpm's enables you roll it on up the rpm scale to pack top hp. at a moderate 6,000 rpm.

I drove one and it impressed me for a 4 cyl., got rubber in first and second and got up to 100 mph. pretty quick, also you get 5yrs. 50,000 mile warranty so you shouldn't have to worry about it for awhile.
