Or when she gets invited to a party, or other social event where she becomes nervous, gets knots in her stomach and doesn't want to go?
Is there a name for something like this? Is there a cure?

Mostly, whenever invitiations to parties, weddings, dinners, double-dates, and company functions come up, she feels a mild, knotting in her stomach and gets stressed. She feels so uncomfortable she doesn't want to go out to any of them.

Depending on the degree of "knotting" that goes on, it can range from Social Anxiety Disorder to various agoraphobic disorders, with or without panic disorders attached. As a mental health practitioner with 20+ years experience, now retired, I'd have to disagree with irish eyes treatment recommendation although many people have used some variant of that. What that treatment with drugs does is make another drug addict, and makes the pharmaceutical industry a few more bucks, as if they need it. The one experiencing these knottings has to be strong enough of character to put these issues under control, and, being aware of that is key to the issue of whether she will be "cured". The patient / client is the strongest curative factor here, not the drugs, unless you can make them believe the drugs are, and then, well, another drug addict. God Bless you.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder also known as GAD. It is a fear of social situations and there are medications that can be taken to lessen the symptoms. Do not think that it will cure it though going out into public slowly is recommended. Go to places that do not require a lot of socialization and then maybe where there are just a couple of people. Let her take it slowly and at her pace and if she is somewhere that she starts feeling bad going outside to be alone for a few minutes might help and if it doesn't then leaving would probably be the best. If she beats herself up about not being able to stay let her know that she made progress and it was good that she stayed as long as she did.

Sounds like she may be suffering from a Stomach Ulcer. This is brough on by built up stress or feeling nervous about something before it happens. If it feels like a burning pain above belly button area, this may well be. She should have this checked anyway by a doctor. There are medications out there to help with this. Also if a Ulcer she should stay away from spicy food. If she suffers from heartburn as well the two don't go together very well. Also some people are not relaxed enough. Their all stiffed up when out in puplic which can lead to an upset tummy.
Good luck.

Social anxiety. There are medicines that help curb the anxiety, but I think that it's better to try something non-medical first. You should put yourself in social situations as much as possible. That way you get used to them and won't be so nervous about them. Start with something small and keep going bigger.

I think it is a lack of confidence sometimes when people are not used to being around groups they get nervous in different ways. The best cure is to start out with a small group of people and move upward. A lot of people are nervous around strangers.......there is a word for it but I cannot think of it...good luck

It could be a lot of different things. And each of those things would have a different name. Something like "social anxiety disorder." But that's for relatively persistent feelings. You could be just shy.

As far as I know, it's just being nervous and shy. She just needs to learn to be comfortable around other people. There's no set "cure" or anything.
