signs of teething are fever, slight diarreah, drooling, gnawing, and general crankiness. the lump is probably your best sign.

As a mother of 4, I guarantee she is teething. Give her a teething ring that has been in the fridge. Believe it or not, this cold is soothing to their swollen gums. Imagine how it felt when your wisdom teeth came in, the feeling is the same for them. If she gets real cranky, the pharmacist can give you info on what to put on her gums. By the way...she will be putting things in her mouth for a long time after her teeth come in. It's just called curiosity which is why you have to be careful what you leave hanging around. Hope you get some sleep. Good luck with your baby and I pray good health for both of you.

It sure sounds like it. Babies usually start teething between 4-7 months of age. Drooling, chewing and biting, gum swelling and sensitivity, irritability, and changes in eating and/or sleeping patterns are signs that a tooth is on the way. Some babies also experience mild cold-like symtoms or loose stools. Check out Hylands Teething Tablets, I highly recommend them!

I would say that it is a tooth. She doesn't necessarily have to have a fever. Fever with teething is usually a secondary infection they have picked up from having so many things in their mouth. Consult your pediatrician to be sure. Teething babies can be soothed by letting them chew on cold teething rings, cold wet washcloth, and sometimes baby orajel. Consult your baby's Doctor about giving Tylenol or Ibuprofen. If he/she says it is okay to give either of those, rubbing part of the dose directly on the gums seems to give more relief than orajel.
