I used the example of an apple pie. If you cut it in two pieces and give one to Susie, then she has half the pie.

My first graders are just starting fractions in school, and they are having the kids look at a group of objects, and say how many of the objects are blue. So if there are six objects, and two are blue, the kids write 2/6, because 2 out of the six objects are blue.

But for younger kids, the pie thing worked.

Dividing various shapes and investigating how shapes can be divided into EQUAL pieces. Exploring the part whole concept and looking at folding paper in halfs to create how many equal shapes. Pizzas are always popular too.

First, make sure there are enough donuts for the whole class. Then, for the lesson, gather 4 children at a table with the others watching. Then cut the donut in two pieces. Offer one of the pieces to two of the children. Tell them this is 1/2 of the donut. Then when they ask how to divide it equally, cut it in two pieces and explain that each is 1/4 of the donut........ Then cut the other 1/2 in two and show the whole donut as 4 1/4th

Blocks together, then apart. Invest in the proper materials to make this a hands on activity. Cheap way: Use clear cups of water. Large cups, 1/2 size and 1/4 size cups. Show how they contribute to the whole. Use your imagination.

Kindergarten is an interesting time in school life. You learn Motor skills and also SOCIAL skills.

Use some PAPER pies and cut them up in 1/2 and 1/4 pieces.
The students all know about cutting pies and cakes.

have them help make a cake, or something, then cut it up into 1/2 1/4

wow they start early 0.o im purely in spanish a million yet my instructor says and factors to issues in spanish. like say if she needs us to tutor to internet site 50 she makes a e book beginning action or factors to someones e book. they are youthful and their minds will adapt greater today than a individual who starts later.
