Here are the steps that you should take.
- Try to use the Emergency thing that comes on the Norton 2006 disk. Oh, you didn't buy the disk? Do I have to tell you... you should always buy the disk at a retail store instead of DOWNLOAD it. You see, if your computer is infected, how can you trust a download. Besides, then you would HAVE THE DISK.
- Reboot into SAFE MODE. Then run your Norton Anti-virus scan.
- be sure to uninstall any BOGUS programs that appeared while you were not looking. For security, you should only have trusted programs like SpyBot and Ad-aware.
- Visit the Symantec website at http://www.symantec.com and look for the type of virus that the Anti-virus program says that you have. There should be clear instructions on how to remove that virus.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Sorry you haven't heard this. Don't purchase Norton now or ever again! Thought you knew, i heard about 2 years ago now. They are totally bad for your computer and in fact are a virus themself! My computer has done so much better since i got rid of them. Haven't had any problems since. Best way to not get a virus is to be careful what sites you open and not to open mail from the unknown. Do not surf the porn sites. Bottom line_____no matter what you have...unless you have a mac....if a hacker wants to get in they will. STAY AWAY FROM NORTON! The programmers know it and now you do too.

Be sure your Nortons is updated.
Enter Safe Mode by rapidly tapping the F8 key when you start your computer. Select Safe Mode. Run your AV program.
After the Scan and Removal, rebooting will put the computer back in normal mode.
Any time your AV or AS program finds Malware it cannot remove, and you ask for help on a site like this, please give the names of the Malware exactly as the program lists it. This will help us direct you to programs and procedures that will remove it properly.
Another reason for doing this is because many people classify all Malware infections as Viruses. This is not the case. Each type of Malware needs programs specific to their removal. Some Malware, like Smitfraud and Vundo Trojans, need programs specifically designed to remove them. General Trojan removal programs will not do the job.

Download this free anti-virus as a safe guard:
Run an anti - virus on "Through" search (Avast Only) to ensure all files are searched:
Avast home edition free:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
or
Avg free 7.5

Use one of these in the mean time however you should contact Norton to resolve the issue.

I had this same problem, I worked with Norton Tech Support for two months....even allowing them to remotely access my cpu to uninstall/reinstall/check my registry/modify my registry/uninstall over and over again....and nothing helped. I ended up getting a refund and buying System Suite 7...which I love...its cheaper and works much more easily. Very very user friendly too.

Maybe you have a really tight firewall setting. Right click on your norton icon (in the bottom right hand corner of your screen) and click on somthing that says 'program settings' or something similar.
