Vladislav Tretiak was a legend when we grew up. Sure, people talked about Ken Dryden, but the goalie to beat was Tretiak.

Martin Brodeur is the greatest goalie of all time. He is only 24 at the moment is about to break almost every record a goal can hold. He is third in history with shutouts and is only about 15 away from 1st. He has been the starting goaltender for all three of the New Jersey Devils Stanely Cup championship that have been accumalted by the devils. He is one of only two goalies to score not 1 but 2 goals. He is only another 1 or 2 seasons away from breaking Roy's record of the most wins and Brodeur is a standup goalie which gave Roy an advantage. Martin Brodeur is still a young player and has near 4-6 seasons left in him. Martin Brodeur is the greatest goalie of all time.

No, It's Wah.
Patrick Roy is the BEST of THE BEST -- plante, sawchuk, bower, and dryden and parent were all great. They belong in the BEST goalies list but ROY heads the list.

He performed from season 1, established himself as a competitor, a winner, and tremendous go-to goalie. He continued it for 17 years, won wherever he went, put up amazing numbers on some not-so-amazing teams, inspired a generation of WAH-NABEES, won Cups, Vezinas, HOF. IT's WAH.

now for anyone who thinks it is someone still playing, take the time to watch the old films -- 50s 60s 70s etc, plante, bower, hall, dryden, parent, worsley, esposito are all better than anyone today.

Dryden probably, but Patrick Roy and Dominik Hasek were both amazing. I'd take Roy though, led the Avs to a bunch of Stanley Cups. Had success in Colorado and Montreal. Great goalie is WHOLE career. Rarely had a bad year.

Being from Philadelphia I'm biased towards Bernie Parent. Besides being a great goaltender, he's a REAL nice guy.

I think Hasek is one of the greatest. I never seen a guy pull saves the way he does. If he wasn't that injury prone....he would have been an absolute monster...not just "great"

The future as the greatest goalie belongs to Martin Broduer of the New Jersey Devils!

I would say George Hainsworth. Once had 22 shutouts in 44 games (1928-29), before the days of heavy padding or masks. My second vote would go to Glenn Hall who played an incredible 502 consecutive games (before the days of a mask) and racked up Hall of Fame numbers.

Patrick Roy established himself as a clutch, "money" goaltender early in his career. He developed that craft and added consistency and longevity to his list of accomplishments. He retired with 4 cups and the most wins in history, but the title of 'best ever' will only be his until Martin Brodeur decides to hang'em up.
