I'm not even sure if that's what I need. All I want to do is hook up my dsl to the computer and to the playstation 2 at the same time. So what do I need?

there is a connector which u connect to the router and gives u several slots which u can connect several wires into it.. all u have to do is connect the router to the computer from one slot....and another wire from the router to ps2 from another slot... don't worry not a big deal

Yes, a router requires electricty.

Whether you need a router ( that can NAT the connection) or just a switch will depend on whether or not you get more than one IP address from your provider. If the answer is you get one, you'll need a router (and that's usually the case).

A Router does need power. It usually comes with the router in the form of a wall wart.

Yup! & Yup! Right on both counts, you need electricity and this will allow you to hook up ps2
