The Department of Transportation wanted to have a share of the budget just like the Defense Department in order to work hand in hand in the development of powerful planes and ships to be used publicly but can be used in case of war.

They are both departments in the executive branch. The Department of Transportation wants lots of money because it wishes to update and repair the aging interstate highway system which consists of 46,837 miles of four lane divided controlled access freeway. This system was designed and built in the 1950's and 1960's and is out of date and falling apart in some areas. A major overhaul is needed to maintain commerce and transportation in this country.
