Could anyone tell me what I need to do to become a College Lecturer? I have been a Chef for nearly 20 years and I would like to teach Catering.
What qualifications do I need etc?
Many thanks.

Providing you have all your catering and hygiene certs, then you need to get the 7307. The ebefit of this is that most colleges will give you some paid part-time hours while you are studying.

I started out teaching this way (in another subject) and I have never looked back. Now have an excellent job which I would never have managed if I hadn't taken the plunge and gone into teaching.

Good luck.

As a chef who has taught catering in college you must have all your catering certificates etc first as experience alone wont do it. You can in most colleges study for your teaching cert as you go along because there is a shortage of good chefs willing to teach. If you wish to go further you will need to gain more qualifications but again you can do this as you work.
But a word of warning, you will start off teaching NVQ1 and most of the people on this are there cos they dont know what else to do, i know cos this is where i started and it was hell. Most still think there at school and perform as such........ but if its what you want then good luck...i quit couldnt take the prats anylonger. Im retraining in a job with better hours and money!!!!!!!!!

It depends on what level you are teaching. If you are teaching general cookery and baking then all you will need some kind of health & safty cerificate to show you are safe to demonstrate and oven. If you are doing GCSE or A-level home economics then you will need to do a teaching course.
Ask the college what qualifications they want you to have.

If you`re just condidering ordinary college work, such as adult evening classes etc. then you can apply to do a city and guilds 7307. which is a teaching certificate complted in three stages over three years or quicker. This course is available at most colleges running evening classes etc.or part -time courses.
it covers you for adult and further education teaching.

the plus side of this is all your practical needs and exprience are there on site at the college you choose to learn in.
