Hello, What a brilliant question...
It's because they have run out of all the fakers that are in the music business of today. There isn't much honesty in the music business anymore, everyone is in it for what they can get out of it, and to blazes with good honest entertainment, and I think the worst offender is Elton John, I once heard that they say any publicity is good publicity, but I cannot for the breath in me see what the dickens is good entertainmant value in the drivel he bangs out at us, ( In his business he has to take criticism, and that is what they all have to take that has it figured he is the worlds greatest entertainer) So I am happy not to have to switch MTV on my tv anymore, and seek better entertainment, such as I saw on UKtv Gold 2 this afternoon, when Status Quo did some live performances on the show TOTP2 Brilliant, follow that MTV.

It seems like reality tv is more profitable because people have become fascinated with other people's lives. Laguna Beach and The Hills are popular "reality" shows, but I think it is heavily scripted.
