Maybe something about your life right now. Like what your day was like yesterday or today. Or a descriptive poem (or an ode) about what an event meant to you like dinner, a tv show, a new purchase. Be creative, that will get more attention.

Nature is always a good topic for poetry. It is easy to come up with analogies. Write about how what you see makes you feel. Poetry is all about feeling, and expressing your feelings through deliberate word choice. Have fun!

Read a bunch of poems by different authors in an anthology (i think there are a few on bartelby.com) and then when a poem touches you, go straight to a book by that particular author and read and read, that should inspire you.

Do not write poems about love.
Try to get your inspiration from a story that you have read (try mythology-Icarus and Daedalus)

Think about what is going on in your life or who has influenced you during your life. That always helps me. Good luck!
