Do you think bad drugs would have never been made illegal if there were as many users of them as there were of alcohol at their time of being scheduled?
Prohibition comes to mind when I think about this. U.S. tried to make Alcohol illegal in the 20's/30's but this failed. Why? Because alcohol has been around for centuries before meaning its user base would have been very large in the United States. When it was made illegal these "users” got very upset and angry witch caused more crime than alcohol started. As a result they decided to make alcohol legal ounce again.
So ask yourself why this didn't happen with cocaine, marijuana ECT. I simply believe it was because their users base wasn’t near as high as there were alcohol consumers. Thus when they made these illegal there was not many to complain about it or a high demand for it, so crime was very small. Same with marijuana besides money is also a big factor in marijuana as to why it’s illegal.

Now come to present day. These drugs (cocaine, marijuana) DO have a large user base and cause lots and lots of crime. While all three of these drugs (alcohol, marijuana, cocaine) can be very bad for your body and mind its safe to assume that legalization of these would ultimately lower crime in the U.S. it would be very closed minded not too think so.
For those who say my thoughts are wrong because alcohol isn’t near as bad as cocaine or marijuana think again. I have spent the last 4 years of my life studying psychoactive substances and alcohol is defiantly on par with cocaine, and much worse physically than marijuana with a much higher potential for addiction.
I am not saying that legalization of these drugs would stop all crime, yes you will see an increase of Cocaine addicts and cocaine overdoses if it could simply be purchase at a liquor store but I believe it would stop much more crime and pain than it creates, just like prohibition.

Drugs could not have been declared illegal if the users did not violate laws and commit crimes.

I don't think the number of users has as much to do with the legality of cocaine and marijuana. To me it seems like if the government could find a way to tax the use of drugs that are presently illegal there would be more tolerance towards them, especially regarding marijuana. In fact I think the effects of alcohol are much worse than those of marijuana. It could be that if illegal drug use were socially acceptable that there would a tolerance for it. Or even if it was common in Western culture for thousands of years, like alcohol has been.

Being on both sides of the playing field here, meaning that i have used and also been sober and i have studied this over and over, i must say i am still on the fence as far as whether to legalize these drugs or not. As far as alcohol is concerned i do not think it should be legal but for medical purposes only much like marijuana. Both of those should be by prescription of a medical doctor only. Yes, in California you can get medial marijuanna but people do not realize that you can get a "medical card" for this many places and they are not coming from doctors. IT has become nothing more than a business there. And those that do have the cards are nothing more now than legal dealers who sell to people who do not have any medical conditions. It is much like giving a prescription drug to someone who has no illness.
Cocaine, meth and the others can also be used in small amounts in medicine and they too should be used by prescription. If they legalized street drugs this way i would say it is a good idea.

Wow, you are all over the place..........I know this if they legalized illegal drugs, it would not cut crime. I don't know where you got that from........about the only drug I could see being legalized would have to be marijuana. A lot of the drugs now a days like meth and cocaine, heroin etc.....are extremely dangerous. Meth is made with all kinds of bad stuff, just think about people ingesting all of this into their bodies. Why would they make something like these kinds of drugs legal? I think you are high.

Interesting tidbit... there are about the same number (percentage) of cocaine addicts now as there before it was made an illegal drug. Marijuana was made illegal primarily because it looks like hemp and DuPont wanted hemp banned because it was in competition with DuPont's new product Nylon (and better) So they used the "fact" that crazy ****** high on MJ would go around raping white women... the rest is history.

Cocaine, morphine, hashish, and opium were outlawed in the 19th century because too many people "enjoyed" them. Alcohol and marijuana in the 20th century. The 'war on drugs' is a money sponge enriching it's 'enforcers' only.

i don't have much to say cause your question is way too long. but i think they're illegal because they create a bigger variety of reactions and many of them can create more bodily harm than alcohol, but i do think marijuana should be legal.

I think they'd be illegal because most drugs that are illegal are that way because they're bad for you
