I'm taking a poll... has anyone tried sex to induce labor? Has it worked? If yes, how long after having sex did your contractions start?

Thanks for answering!

I had sex with my husband the night before I went into labor with our daughter. Of course, a Korean lady gave him a bag of rice the same day, and that's supposed to make the baby come, too, so who knows?

Walking does not induce labor. Neither does castor oil, stripping, or anything else. However, sex really did put me in labor. I was a week late and had tried everything else. The sex left me feeling feeling a little sick, pained, and uncomfortable, and that feeling just got worse and worse until a few hours later I realized that I was in labor. I was scheduled for an induction the next morning, however, and ended up having my son 8 hours after being hooked up to pitocin. I'm sure, though, that if we had tried sex a couple weeks earlier, it would not have worked. It was just time for him to come (within a day or so....)

There is plenty of truth in it, but it doesn't always wrok for everyone. When a woman orgasms, it causes the uterus to contract, which COULD get the ball rolling, so to speak. Also, male ejaculate contains prostaglandins that help to soften the cervix. I didn't have any luck with it when I had my kids. I have heard of women having sex the night before going into labor or being in the beginning stages of labor all night after having sex.

Yes it does! An orgasm is a small uterine contraction so it sort of primes the pump for more. No telling how well it or how fast it will work for you but you need to be a little careful about putting pressure on the baby and not thrusting to deeply. It won't damage the baby but why take any chances.

I think it is one of those things that works sometimes but not all of the time. It worked for me with one of my babies. I went into labor within 48 hours of having sex. I've heard there is something in semen that stimulates the hormone that starts contractions.

Who cares if it works or not, at least it's a fun way to pass the time rather than just sitting there, on edge, waiting for labor to start on it's own!!!

LOL////I tried with my DD which is now 14...but she was 2 wks 3 days late...nothing I did induced my labor...

I do not believe it is fact, but I do know the male sperm helps soften the cervix after the woman has begun to efface.

I hope this helps.

It's not sex per se that helps induce labor...it's orgasm (female's orgasm NOT his lol). During orgasm the uterus has contractions.Actually orgasm can help relieve menstrual cramps for the same reason.
